Nicole has always loved babies and been fascinated by the natural world.
She even made up some “healing potions” of her own while playing as a child (with water, pine needles, and anything else she could get her hands on). Nicole grew up talking little, but listening a lot – and won an award for the quietest kid in her kindergarden class. However, all those years of listening has allowed her to really understand where each family is coming from on their own birth journey.
Although she thought she would be a paediatrician and loved her biology classes, life took her in another direction. The pregnancy and birth of her daughter was filled with care givers who valued informed choices. However, when her daughter was born early and admitted to the NICU, her experience of being the leader of the team was pulled out from under her and she had to find new ways of working with the system to advocate for her baby and herself, especially around breastfeeding. Followed by two ectopic pregnancies, Nicole got to see even more sides of our health care system, but used each of these experiences to make stronger relationships, build bridges, and make sure that she continued to have the informed choices she grew to love…and she did conceive and give birth to her son, naturally, even though the doctors all said it wouldn’t be possible.
Nicole knows that your experiences matter and wants to help you find the options that work best for your family.
This journey to parenthood is one where you can get in touch with your inner wisdom and learn to trust your instincts (and that of your children too). It is also one where there is wisdom all around us. Nicole draws from her degree in infant, child, and adolescent development. Nicole is a certified labour doula, postpartum doula, and childbirth educator with CAPPA Canada and continues to take trainings on a regular basis to stay up-to-date about all the current information when it comes to pregnancy, birth, babies, and breastfeeding.
Underneath it all, Nicole is a lover of yoga, the Earth, delicious foods – and is thankfully married to a magician in the kitchen. She loves the winter with all of the stillness and silence it brings…maybe because it is so much easier to listen.
From Nicole:
I am deeply honoured to all of the families that have invited me into their sacred birthing space. You have all taught me many lessons and enriched my life in so many ways. To all the families who will welcome me in the future, I look forward to serving you with the very best tools I have: my ears, my hands, and my heart.
That is a little about my journey. I look forward to getting to know you through yours.
Blessings,
~Nicole
